Vintage 60s Space Toy Moon Mobile Scout Wagon Explorer Ship Bandai Sears Excl

Imagine excitedly flipping through the pages of a Sears catalog and stumbling upon this beauty in 1960! Description reads, Scout Wagon with reconnaissance plane. Crank operated crane raises, lowers; moves on tracks. 6 headlights (2 red, 2 green flashers, 2 steady white beams). Your repeated wishes to Santa went unanswered.

It was non existent at the toy stores. The Moon Mobile Scout Wagon Explorer never made it to your home.

Unique doesn't even begin to describe this ultra rare space toy. Bandai released only 5 different pressed steel space age type toys in the early 1960s exclusively for the Sears catalog. As far as condition, it looks like this toy was actually to space and back several dozen times.

Some rust, corrosion, damage to treads just for starters. It's missing the plane, two antennas that were on the front, a hook that attaches to the end of the chain, and one (or maybe two) of the plastic men attached to the outside tower. The battery door is still attached, but will not latch.

Prior owner tried to use electrical tape to secure it. The tire treads are loose. One tread looks to have been glued back together and reattached with electrical tape. Both cranks for the tower and the chain work.

We are not sure what the other crank does and didn't want to force it to work. Battery compartment looks pretty clean. We attempted to try out the mechanical features with 2 D batteries, but no success.

Perhaps it's an easy fix or something obvious we missed. In fear of inflicting further damage, we will leave the cleaning and polishing to the next owner. Regardless of the flaws, this is still an acceptable display piece and great conversation item for collectors.

Measures approximately 12.5" Length x 5.5" Width x 6 Height. This may be a great chance for any collector who has been trying to get their hands on one of these amazing toys. What is it worth to you?
